Essential Gear.
Essential gear. Items that I feel should be part of what everyone has in their line up who is serious about photography. One of the most essential items? Tripod with a good head.

It doesn't matter what kind of photography you do. A tripod is an absolute necessity and it never hurts to buy the best you can get. I have my eyes set on a Gitzo carbon fiber tripod right now, but the price makes my wallet cry.

Unless you're already a pro-amateur and don't need classes, in which case, you should be selling your photography and your services ( in your spare time ) and you would have plenty of money to buy such a nice tripod!
I started out on a point and shoot and mounting it to the cheap tripod I had was easy, but the stability was a nightmare. Especially when it came to manually adjusting exposure and taking multiple shots of the same scene where each shot needs to be perfectly in alignment with the others.
If someone plans on getting a cheap tripod I would recommend using a shutter release cable or setting the self timer to 2 seconds for each shot to reduce the chance of vibration or shake. What's the good in having a tripod if your images are blurry?
BTW, my tripod set me back a total of $135. $75 for the legs and $60 for the head. It's heavy to lug around due to the weight of the legs but it is extremely stable. Since I end up hiking to various places to get my shots, I need to break down and spend the extra for a carbon fiber one to reduce weight with the backback and total gear needed.
